"Worlds Apart from Downtown..."
"Old money" isn't necessarily a term that is relevant in Silicon Valley, but if it were, the area around Page Mill Road would be the first to come to mind. Unlike the congested downtown and the commercial 101, Page Mill Road connects to 280, and is right at the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. This area is more mountainside residential than it is bustling commercial, and the homes and neighborhoods are more affluent.
Because Page Mill Road is a connector street, it isn't necessarily the nicest place to live in Palo Alto, and traffic can get somewhat busy, although nothing like its eastern neighbors. It offers a great, scenic alternative to the 101, with its open feeling closer to the mountains and tree-lined serenity closer to downtown. This is about as mellow as Palo Alto gets.
