"Fantastic Dallas Suburb"
Plano is one of the best suburb in north of Dallas. You get location, nice home resale, excellent schools, greenery, shopping, dinning, entertainment and its pretty affordable. Most residents are educated and high earners. It's equally popular among young couples, families, empty nesters and retired folks.
No its not San Francisco or Hawaii but you wouldn't find those in any part of the Texas.

Realtors tried to take us towards far flung exurbs to new subdivisions where they get bigger commission for little effort but we made it clear that we need to stay central and if we can't afford Highland Park then Plano is our other choice.

"Overrated"
Plano is a very large suburban city in the DFW metroplex with nearly 300K residents. It is well known for its endless shopping and gridded streets but also for its needless pretentiousness. Plano is somehow viewed as DFW's wealthy city, when in fact it's not even close to the top five highest income towns in DFW. Also, most of Plano's neighborhoods have tiny lots and homeowners must use public alleyways which can be a big negative when considering purchasing a home. However, Plano offers good schools, moderate safety, and great shopping. There are two malls in Plano, one is nicer than the other. The city is located north of Dallas and it is nestled in between three tollroads, so commuting will be costly.
Pros
- cost of living
- good schools
- shopping
Cons
- horrible traffic
- snobby attitude
- oceans of cookie-cutter homes and bland atmosphere

Have you ever been to Plano? I wouldn't bother with other rubbish but recommended for singles? Its a highly family oriented town, Legacy Town center, Old Downtown and Austin Ranch are the only suitable pockets for singles. Google homes on Realtor.com to see prices of the houses.
