Prince's Bay
"A very confusing name"
First let me start with the name of this town, because there has been quite a bit of ambiguity with its name. Prince’s Bay and Princess Bay references both names for this community. Prince’s Bay is on the official sign entering this town. A local club calls themselves Princess Bay Boatman’s Association, and according to their web site the area was once called Skunk’s Misery. I don’t think having to market your home for sale in Skunk’s Misery, Staten Island would exactly drive home buyers to the area.
Princes Bay features the Seguine Mansion, a Greek Revival-style home, now a New York City landmark and operated by the New York City Parks Department. The home is a wonderful place to see if you’re passing through. During the spring the home has a Savannah, Georgian type feel, with horses roaming nearby.
The overall neighborhood features luxury and high end single family homes as well as affordably priced town homes. Like the neighboring town of Pleasant Plains, the area has quite a few parks that surround this community, with Raritan Bay to the south. The parks provide an airy and country feel to this community, and the bay provides waterfront breezes. Homes here run slightly above the average in price in comparison to other Staten Island communities. However, most people who reside in this community will tell you the price is a small premium to pay for the quality of life this area affords.
If you have a boat or enjoy boating, living in Prince’s Bay will give you quick access to the local marina at Lemon Creak.
