Richmond Ave
"Good Area for Shopping"
Between the supermarkets, the malls and the other chain stores, Richmond Terrace is the place to go for shopping on Staten Island. The mall is pretty decent - it's great for people watching the Staten Islanders too! Near the mall, you'll find a Toys R Us, Bed Bath and Beyond, Stop and Shop, K Mart, and further North on Richmond Ave, you will get a Barnes and Noble, Chilis, Applebees, King Kullen and other shopping and eateries.
The downside to all this exposure is that the traffic gets pretty terrible, especially since there are lights every .2 miles. It's about 30 minutes from the ferry, so the people I know that live around there often will take the express bus ($5 each way) into Manhattan.

Richmond Ave
"Noisy, Plenty of traffic, Good Places to shop"
Richmond Ave is the busiest street in Staten Island in my opinion. If you don't move at a fast pace, this isn't the street for you. Full of a variety of stores from discount to high end, Richmond Ave offers to all taste. If u want to grab a decent bite to eat without emptying your wallet, plenty of bang for you buck resturants in tow.
