"Resort Community History"

Minnetrista, Dakota for “crooked waters,” aptly describes the coastline this city follows along the western shores of Lake Minnetonka. The 32 square miles of the city are made up of farmland, prairies, wetlands and many beautiful neighborhoods that have sprung up in this western suburb over the last ten years. Once a resort community, Minnetrista still offers its residents an abundance of outdoor activities with many lakes and numerous parks. It also features access to the Luce Line bike trail system.

"Minnetrista Real Estate"

Located on the western coves of Lake Minnetonka is the City of Minnetrista. The city is rich in woodlands and agricultural farmlands. If you are wondering about the origin of the name of the city, it was taken from the Native American word “mine” which stands for water, and “trista” which means crooked. The city is 32 square miles long and is home to a little over 6,000 residents all of which enjoy the quaint rural setting that is Minnetrista. Because the city is an agricultural region, most of the work activities in here involve horses, hay, beans, and corn. The city is strategically located in between the suburbs and rural regions which provide its inhabitants the best of both worlds.
Schools here are run by the local school districts controlled by an elected school board. Some of the schools that serve Minnetrista City include the Westonka Public Schools, Watertown-Mayer Public Schools, Waconia Public Schools, and the Delano Public Schools.
The city is filed with a lot of attractions such as the Old Log Theater which is one of the oldest theaters in the country near the shores of Lake Minnetonka, Big Stone Mini Golf, private and public cruises via Al and Alma’s Super Club and Charter Cruises, Lady of the Lake Cruises, Burl Oaks Golf Club, Air Assault Paintball, and the Gillespie Center. The Gillespie Center was built and is being maintained through the contributions of the citizens of Minnetrista. Enjoy the great outdoors in many Minnetrista parks including the great Lake Minnetonka Regional Park. The park offers day trips, gardens, lakes and canals, a large picnic area, tables, grills, and an open play area for those who want to play volleyball. There is also a huge fishing pier which offers easy access to Lake Minnetonka.
Other parks in Minnetrista include Douglas Park at Tuxedo Road, Gale Woods Farm Park at the Three Rivers Park District, Gene Lehner Park, Perennial Park, Jennings Park, Kings Point Park, Linden Park, Painters Creek Park, Cusoke Parks at Saunders Lake, Slow Creek Park, and the Merz Marsh Park.
The city offers equal employment opportunity for everyone so if you are thinking of looking for work, you can rest assured that Minnetrista employers do not discriminate against any applicant. If you are looking for a great place to transfer, Minnetrista offers the best amenities from education to work to housing opportunities. The city has a vibrant local government which manages the place pretty well and the region offers some of the finest natural habitat creating a very awesome environment for you and your family.

"I like the small town feel!"

A few years ago when I relocated back to MN to be near my kids and grandchildren I selected Minnetrista. I like the small town feel. I like it that more people walk by my house than drive.
And, they stop and talk! I like to walk and bike ride and I feel safe. And with fantastic lake views!
There is a Great Hospital in near by Waconia, good shopping in Mound Excelsior and Wayzata. Several great trails and parks. I love being close to all that a big city offers while enjoying the peace and quiet of small community living! All this and Lake Minnetonka and all it offers.

"A Great Place to call Home"

I have lived in Minnetrista for many years and we raised our family there. People are so welcoming to everyone you don't want to leave. We are huge fans of the Westonka SD. Smaller class sizes and enrollment than any of it's bigger neighbors allowed our kids to play football and hockey which they would not have done in the other schools. Also being a few miles west of Wayzata made home prices become much more affordable and the possibility of owning a lake home better. Minnetrista is a great choice.
Pros
  • Lake Minnetonka
  • Lifestyle
  • Schools
Cons
  • Lake Minnetonka is an asset. Nonetheless, must traverse the shores to get to the "Big City".

"Easy living on the west side of Lake Minnetonka"

Having lived in the neighboring city of Mound for 7 years, I can tell you this area offers a small town feel complimented by all the amenities one needs for one's family. Neighboring community, Mound, offers, shopping, dining, Wells Fargo, Caribou Coffee, Hennepin County Library, Health Care, and more all within walking distance. The Dakota Trail runs through Minnetrista from Watertown to Wayzata. On the south side residents and guests of the community can enjoy the Westonka Recreational Park.

Westonka schools are among the finest in the state. This hasn't always been the case. I played against Westonka as a youth and remember when budgets were so bad at the school; they had to cut sports programs. Now, the school is flourishing academically and in athletics! Welcome home!
