"Nice area on Jefferson"
I always drove by the Alden Park Manor whenever I went down East Jefferson, which was quite often. But I have never actually been in the complex itself until my former roommate’s coworker who lived there invited him over one day.
The guy had a two-bedroom apartment on the third floor, and the floor plan was very nice. He also had some decent views, although his unit did not directly face the water. Although it is supposed to be a historic Detroit landmark type of building, just by being in it you could tell that considerable money had been spent towards modernization. Overall a very nice place and one that I would live in without hesitation. I love being downtown and I especially love being by the water. What I don't love is in the warmer months the traffic on East Jefferson gets a little bit rowdy, with blaring music and screeching tires.
There are enough buses on Jefferson for anyone to get back and forth, and there are enough little retail outlets where you don't have to go into the city for everything. But hey I love downtown and go there every chance I get. And this neighborhood is just a stone's throw away. Highly recommended, although I didn't ask the guy at Alden Park how much he was paying in rent.

"Near the Water and Other Nice Features"
If you've been to downtown Detroit before, chances are that you have seen the landmark Alden Park apartments. That's a big part of this area of town as they stand high above and are close to the waterfront. They are a desirable aspect of living downtown offering safety and a nice atmosphere.
Though Alden Park itself doesn't offer much in terms of amenities, it is located just minutes from all the great features of downtown Detroit. It is close to the waterfront and that offers a benefit in and of itself to many. You will find that this is also a community that is also very accessible since it is located right near the main expressway of I-75 and the main road of Woodward that runs all throughout the city.
This is a great choice if you want to live downtown but want a bit of peace and quiet. Though there is plenty nearby you don't have to fight the crowds to make it through your day. With the water nearby and a park in this neighborhood it's a great option for singles or for those with kids that want to keep them entertained.

"Alden Park - Boasting one of Detroits most historic buildings, but not much more!"
There is a good chance that if you blink, you might miss Alden Park. Although the population of the neighborhood sees an average of 650 residents, at least half live in Alden Park Towers, one of the most popular and historic buildings in Detroit. Located at 8100 East Jefferson, it was registered as a historic place in 1985. Four 8 story, charming red brick buildings stand in a neat row with intriguing roofs and bay windows. There is even a laundry facility and grocery store inside so residents don’t have to go far for amenities. All this being said, when an apartment complex is the highlight of a neighborhood, that’s not saying much.
There is nothing exciting to do here other than lay your head and sleep, but on a positive note, the Chrysler Freeway is at your back door. So, whether you work in the heart of the city or commute into the suburbs, you don’t have to drive through any rundown or vacant neighborhoods to get there.
