"Nice Area of Town"

This is where it's going on! If you come to Detroit for just about anything, chances are that it starts or ends up in the New Center area. This is where the Ren Cen is located and where you can find a great number of restaurants and nightclubs. It has some great options for shopping and overall a wonderful nightlife. It used to be that this was the only appeal that this part of town held, but that has changed dramatically.

The housing in this area used to be run down but that is no longer the case. Now there are some wonderful housing options and a great focus on making this one of the highlights of the city of Detroit. There is a coalition in place that is helping to revitalize this area in addition to other areas nearby. Since this is such a focal point within town it only makes sense that the housing should be just as great as the attractions.

This is truly big city living and therefore you can find any number of great apartment buildings and homes amongst the many attractions located here. It's very easily accessible as it is close to two major expressways and is quite literally at the center of everything. You even have some great parks nearby and therefore this is a great spot to pick within the city limits.
Pros
  • So Much to Do
  • Very Accessible

  • Close to the Lodge Freeway
  • Very nice club/bar scene
Cons
  • Noisy from Local Attractions
  • Change Not Happening As Fast As Some Would Like
  • Neighborhood area is run down.
  • Parking is terrible

"A nice, underrated part of Detroit"

I have both worked in the New Center area, and went to clubs and bars in the area. When I was working down there, parking was a bear. You either had to park far away from your office building, or pay an arm and leg to park in a garage. I did work for GM in the Fisher Building before they moved to the Ren Cen. There are plenty of little shops and places to eat inside the complex which was a huge bonus for me. The main street around the area is Woodward, and of course you can hop right on or off the Lodge to get there.

I have frequented both of the nightclubs housed in the Fisher building, and I had a blast each time. Trendy, high-class, high-energy, attractive people go there to have fun. A Definite plus in my book.

It's really not an area where you want to live, although there are some neighborhoods close by. The neighborhood area is run down. Whenever I had to park far from the main area close to one of the neighborhood areas, I was always nervous that my car wouldn't be there when I came back. But like I said, it's really more of a business district than anything else.
