"Major Industrial Area with Some Nice Residential"
The star of this area is really the industrial area, hence the name. While the residential areas found within this neighborhood are in good shape, they aren't what the majority of the area is all about. What you see here is a huge industrial presence and some nice residential neighborhoods sort of scattered throughout.
Here's the thing--the residential parts are actually in good shape and relatively quiet. When you consider how much noise and traffic the industrial element has the potential to create it's truly a wonder how it's not disruptive. The residential pockets however are not only in good shape but actually offer a bit of peace and quiet.
Since this is close to the old Tiger's Stadium you can find a fair amount of restaurants and shops nearby. The presence of these was undoubtedly better when the stadium was still around, but you can still get to what you need fairly easily. Overall this seems like a neighborhood within town that just sort of wants to keep to itself.
This is a truly unique identity in terms of the neighborhood as a whole. You can find plenty of nice houses but you will pay a bit more for it. The cost of living is a bit higher and therefore this attracts people that are willing to pay more and therefore end up taking good care of their property.
If you don't mind being close to industrial areas and paying a bit more, then this is a good area of town. It's not for everyone, but it does have some good things to offer.

"Some neighborhood yes, but mostly a large industrial area"
Most of the residential living areas are in little pockets near the edges of this geographic area. But as a whole, the neighborhood itself is predominately a large industrial park, with places of business scattered about. The neighborhood area is over by the Lodge near Bagley St., featuring some decent looking homes on some quaint little streets. There are other nice streets on the other side of Bagley, but technically they are not part of this neighborhood
Surprisingly, the main roads around here, like Abbott Street and Trumbull for example are not bad. You would expect all kinds of potholes from all the 18 wheelers that come through here, but you don't really see that. There are some areas of Detroit that used to have a lot of heavy manufacturing going on around them, but have of late turned into ghost towns. This area though, seems to still have businesses and is thriving a bit.
The old Tiger Stadium is very close to the north part of this neighborhood, and I imagine that since it was leveled it has caused the local economy to suffer a little. But overall the few residential streets here are quite livable. Buses, and retails shop can be found on Michigan Ave, Bagley, and 12th street.

"Riverside Detroit - upper middle class but crowded"
Between 3rd Street and 126th Street, Detroit’s West Side Industrial neighborhood sits in a busy area of the city just off of both the Chrysler and Fisher Freeways. This neighborhood borders the river and Canada just across the river, and is busy with nearly 1,200 people jammed into just over one half of a square mile. The West Side Industrial neighborhood has mostly properties over $150,000, and is one of the most evenly split neighborhoods in the city between white and black residents.
Household income is mostly above $40,000, and much of the neighborhood remains upper middle class. It is an area of Detroit that is well above average in rent prices, median age and foreign born residents – and maintains a low crime rate and low unemployment rate compared to the rest of the city.
Though it is often crowded and noisy, the city maintains a middle-aged atmosphere, and there are plenty of things to do for the 30 and 40-something age groups. Not far from the industrial areas of the city, you may be plagued by noise and by pollution, but there will not be as many children running around outside of your house as you might find in nearby neighborhoods.

"The noise never stops."
This is the worst possible place to live and enjoy sleep. Everything from candles to plastic bags are all made there. Not all of the industries work twenty four hours a day, but there are still a few that do and the noise is definitely able to be heard from neighboring streets. There is nothing in the area besides the industries and occasional houses on the outside of the neighborhood. The best quality for those who live in the area is the near location to Wayne County Community College. In general this neighborhood is mainly as it says, an industrial side of town.
