"Urban center, close to everything"
It's not the most attractive or most affluent neighborhood, but the mix of neighbors gives it the old town feel that you're wanted. It's safe to walk to the local ice cream shop and to the grocery store. Located near the university, it has its share of rental property which can be a little frustrating. Also, located very near the interstate and the airport, so noise levels can be very high at times, but you get used to the planes and trucks. As with all neighborhoods, there are neighbors you don't like, but for the most part, everyone on the street is friendly and tends to keep an eye on who's coming and going.
We've lived here for 4.5 years and we're happy although we don't think the city is doing enough about crime in our area. We've seen drug deals and the graffiti is a little obnoxious in places, but the street itself is in good shape. Plus, as it's located near the interstate, you can be anywhere else in the city within minutes.
There is one set of neighbors who feel as if they own the street and they go out of their way (in my opinion) to be un-neighborly. But everyone else has been wonderful and we've made great friends. The kind of neighbors who will watch your dog while you go out of town or get your paper and mail on the weekend.

The local neighborhood association (which, in interest of disclosure, I'm not a member of) has been contacted about drug activities in the alleys behind our houses. Also, the local police department has been made aware of these activities as well. To date, nothing seems to have been done. No increased presence. Also, crime has increased near the university campus as well and that seems to bleed over into the neighborhood.
Still, it's not as if everyone is toting shotguns and there have been NO drive-bys. It's a safe neighborhood, we just feel it could be a little cleaner.
