South Hwy 101, Wolfback Ridge

Normally, I would NEVER give a crowded interstate this high of a rating, especially minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge. However, Route 101 just north of San Francisco offers some of the most stunning views anywhere west of the Mississippi. Nestled between the Marin Headlands and the San Francisco Bay, the interstate boasts stunning panoramas of the hills, the Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge (heading southbound) and the Pacific Ocean.

Everyone should stop at the lookout just north of the bridge at least once in their lifetime, and take in the splendor of the views that lie ahead. With the city of San Francisco to the south, the Pacific Ocean to the West, and the town of Sausalito to the east, this lookout point is one of the best in the area. Be sure to bring a jacket for the wind!
