"A great shortcut to southwest towns"
S. Michigan St. is a short 10-block stretch that offers quick access to south King County and southwest towns, like Burien, Seatac and Normandy Park. It provides some fast-food establishments, banking and a few specialty shops, but is mainly used as an access road to or from I-5, E. Marginal Way and the 1st Ave. bridge. Traffic is generally fast-paced compared to other commuter roads in the area, though eastbound traffic can get a little confusing at the I-5 interchange. A few trees dot the sidewalks, though not enough to call it "leafy". Residences close by are typically single-family homes and are usually a little closer to the run-down side than the affluent. The area is generally considered safe, though it's not a major walking area.
