"Manageable"
For some reason, this freeway gets far less Silicon Valley traffic than one may expect. While it is not quite as "on the map" as 280, 880, and the 101, it does still run through Mountain View (Google HQ) and Cupertino (Apple HQ), which happen to be adjacent to one another.
Perhaps the reason why it is more mellow is because it is more of a highway OUT of Silicon Valley than a highway in. It is known as the West Valley Freeway because it serves the western part of the valley, while avoiding the East. As a result, San Jose is miles away.
Like many of the other busier freeways in California, the drivers here are unusually friendly.
If you can get away with it, use this as your commuter route in the morning. Just don't tell your friends.
