Sunnyside
"In case of flooding, come here!"
Sunnyside is a neighborhood in the Mid-Island area of Staten Island. There are two large city parks in the area, Silver Lake Park and Clove Lakes Park. The area is surrounded by several hills like Grymes Hill, Emerson Hill, and Castleton Hill.
The neighborhood is home to an advanced placement high school known as the Michael Petrides Center, which took the place of the College of Staten Island campus. The campus was moved and the high school was developed.
There are small business in the area, but not many chain retail centers - at all! Sunnyside is not a place to stroll the shops and boutiques, there are none to be found. A few service centers can be located along Queens Avenue.
Sunnyside is also a center of evacuation for the residents of the Island in case of floods, emergencies, or natural disasters. Many of Sunnyside’s residents are civil service workers, typical of many Mid-Island neighborhoods on Staten Island.
