"Dormont Is Decent"
Dormont is cheap to live in and is an overall nice area with great accessibility to a wide variety of products and services. The properties are pretty close together, but everyone keeps to themselves and minds their own business.
Dormont is also it's own locality, with it's own Mayor and government. This means that you can't vote for Pittsburgh city offices, but you also don't pay city taxes, which is nice. 1% local tax vs. 3% local tax.
The accessibility to Pittsburgh and other locations to the south is very good as well. Rush hour is difficult though as you have to go through one of two tunnels to get to Pittsburgh and points north of the city. A 6 mile commute will take anywhere from 30 minutes to 45 minutes (headed to the city) from the hours of 7am-10am and 5pm-7pm (headed from the city). That's the biggest downside.
The Trolley and Bus lines are very good here though, so you can typically get away with using those instead.
