"One of the best streets in Naperville"
Disclaimer... I grew up on Thornwood Drive and my mom still lives there so of course I am slightly biased. That said, this is a beautiful street. Huge trees and larger lot sizes with deep setbacks provide a wonderful streets scape. Thornwood Drive is about a close to Highlands School as one can get so a very short walk for the kiddos. Thornwoood is also very close to the Riverwalk entrance and to the DuPage river trail access point. Downtown Naperville is only about a 10 minute walk. I have sold several homes on Thornwood Drive over the years and I have several friends and clients that live on Thornwood. There is a mix of new homes and existing homes and there are still some long time residents living there. Highlands school is one of the best elementary schools in Chicagoland and both my children have attended Highlands so I know from experience that it is an outstanding school. Thornwood Drive is in the East Highlands subdivision. This was Naperville's first planned unit development. Started in the 1950's the neighborhood was on the outskirts of Naperville then and primarily consisted of 3 bedroom ranches and split level homes. Today this neighborhood is about as close to downtown Naperville as you can live. Edward hospital is less than a mile away making it very attractive to area doctors. The metra train is about 1.5 miles away and both I88 and I355 are conveniently accesses within about 10 minutes from here.
Pros
- Beautiful street with mature trees and well maintained homes.
- Super close to Highlands School.
- Convenient access to downtown Naperville, parks and recreational trails.
Cons
- Expensive street to live on.
- No sidewalks... yet. Naperville is adding sidewalks to the east highlands every year.
