"Nice area, confusing as anything"
Urban Lane gets major points for its proximity to downtown and to the Caltrain station, but it loses them again as far as how manageable it is. Caltrain is served by no less than four separate parking lots, which can be difficult to navigate on foot, as I have experienced.
On the flip side, Urban Lane is aptly named in that it is in the center of EVERYTHING, from the train station to downtown Palo Alto to El Camino Real to Stanford and the shopping center. The apartments and condos here are modern, clean, close to everything, and expensive. Dining options don't get much better than in downtown Palo Alto.
If you can figure out the parking system here, this is one of the most convenient places to be.
