"West of the major Deegan is the best! Little NYC secret"

Kingsbridge is huge. So, I cant tell you much about east of the Major Deegan. Frankly I think it's a completely different neighborhood when one croses a major interstate highway. However, west of the highway towards Riverdale is in my opinion is one of the best kept secrets in New York City real estate. A friend from work and his wife recently moved to a new luxury building on 231st and Corlear and they couldn't be happier with the building and the area. The area is moderately being gentrified but by smart middle class young professionals of all races like my friend and his wife. Because of the recent developments, new small businesses have been opening up. The very popular Bronx Ale House comes to mind. It reminds me of how Williamsburg was at the start of it's transition but instead of hipsters moving in, it's young professionals who have been priced out of Manhattan.
Pros
  • CLOSE SHOPPING
  • CLOSE SUBWAY
  • CLOSE TO VAN CORTLANDT PARK

"Safe area, single family homes, condo buildings, metro north station."

Spuyten Duyvil is the southern most part of Riverdale. Although there is very little nightlife in Spuyten Duyvil, having it's own Metro North stop that takes 18-20 minutes to Grand Central is EXTREMELY convenient. Central Riverdale is a little further up but is within walking distance. In Central Riverdale you will find all amenities and restaurants. There are tree lined streets mixed with beautiful single family homes, townhouses & condo/coop buildings around Spuyten Duyvil. You get a little bit of everything architectural wise. Most, if not all coop/condo buildings, have doormen. The area is super safe. Spuyten Duyvil the safest NYPD sector in the 50th Precinct.
Pros
  • Super Super Safe
  • 20 minute Metro North to Grand Central
  • Tree Lined Streets

"Most convenient of the pretty Riverdale Streets"

Although Oxford Avenue is a very pretty little Central Riverdale street, there are WAY more stately ones with majestic multi-million dollar mansions in Riverdale. However, I like Oxford the best because not only is it clean, safe & pretty, it's the most walk-friendly of the prettiest & quietest residential streets of Riverdale. Although parking is relatively easy, you don't need to depend on a vehicle to live on Oxford since it's the closest Riverdale street to the subway, supermarket, banks, coffee shops & restaurants, parks, dog walk, schools, gym, etc. At the base of the street is a gorgeous hilly park called Ewen Park that I like to take my dog to and read. I do live on Oxford Avenue but it was because of a strategic choice. I wanted to live in a safe and quiet area but I didn't want to lose the walkable city conveniences I had when I lived in Manhattan. I been living at Oxford seven years now, and it was the best decision I've ever made.
Pros
  • Most Convenient of the Pretty Riverdale Streets
  • Walking Distance to All Amenities yet Still Residential
  • Friendliest Young Professional Part of Riverdale
  • Beautiful Tree Lined Street
  • Convenience to Transportation & Shopping
  • Urban Burb (suburban street next to urban amenities)
Cons
  • Although she holds its own, certainly not the most majestic of the gorgeous Riverdale Streets
  • Cant think of one. It's perfect Riverdale street
