"About Cross River..."

The best description (my opinion only) of Cross River is that it is a "suburb" of Katonah, and a car is a must ! Cross River is about 5 miles from the hamlet of Katonah, home to John Jay Middle School & High School, 5 minutes to the Lewisboro Park & Pool Complex, home of the Ward Pound Reservation which is great for walking & hiking. About 10 mins north is North Salem, great for riding lessons, trails, boarding your horse(s). Michelle Estates is an established neighborhood with many professionals & kids, very close to John Jay. There are condos & homes, both large & small. There is a shopping center with Deciccos Grocery Store, Haiku for excellent Asian food; an excellent new Yogurt Spot, Post Office, Nail Salon, Drug Store etc etc There is also a very popular Italian restaurant in Cross River. Most commuters use the Goldens Bridge train station, but early commuters could also drive to Katonah & use the non-resident parking lot. Ridgefield, Ct. is about a 20 minute +/- drive with good shopping & restaurants. Rte 684 & the Saw Mill Pkwy are a drive of about 10 minutes heading toward Katonah, unless you catch the morning commuter traffic. Cross River is country living and a touch of suburbia.
Pros

  • Peace and Quiet
  • Great parks
Cons
  • must own a car
  • no night life
  • Must travel to find things to do
  • no real shopping

"Katonah is More Than A Wonderful Hamlet...."

Katonah has a reputation for being too expensive for many people who would love to love in this wonderful community--it actually stretches way beyond the village that we all love. Just letting you know, it's more affordable than you think ! As of today (July 13, 2012), there are 219 single family homes on the market throughout the Katonah/Lewisboro school system and the prices range from $199,500 all the way up to 14 million. The median price for the most recent full year (2011) was $596,000. So go online to your favorite real estate website and check out the area, you'll be surprised ! And if you love the outdoors and dogs, horses, riding trails, lakes, parks, open spaces -- as well as proximity to cultural events & places (music at Caramoor; art at the Katonah Museum; Books, computers, speakers & more at the wonderful Katonah Library) dining, shopping, movies & theater-- it's all here.
Pros
  • Arts and culture
  • great for commuters
  • cute shopping area
  • very peaceful; lots of quiet
  • beautiful parks and recreation
  • real estate priced from low to high
Cons
  • little night life
  • must have a car
