"NOPA, for the most part...."
I lived on Hayes between Masonic and Central for 3 years - for you old timers, we moved in before they tore down the old Petrini's market. Not a bad spot at all, for City livin'. What I dont miss - the 21 Hayes bus - with 2 stops on either end of my block, the roar of Masonic and Oak/Fell and crack houses on Central. What I do miss - being a block from the Panhandle and a few more to Golden Gate park proper. Back in the day, local food choices were minimal - but that has probably changed.
Way way back in the day, I lived in Hayes Vally. That was so long ago the Central Freeway was still there. Needless to say, that stretch of the street has changed. But some things - like Hayes Street Grill - have not.
I still get down to Hayes Valley (Bulo baby!) every month or so, but NOPA is just not on the radar right now.

"A quiet spot in The City"
Foerster runs from Judson (City College ) to Teresita and loops back around to Teresita again. From Judson to Monterey is quite busy, with the 43 Masonic and the 36 Teresita buses running. At Monterey the 43 turns up the hill and there are a few shops - the local Safeway, a ropey pizza joint, a goofy liquor store and a few dry cleaners etc. The local watering hole is just down the street as well. Sunnyside park is just a ways up Foerster from Monterey and is great little park. The park kinda tucked away from the street, but work a stop, especially if you have little ones.
The last few blocks of the street are near the bottom of Mt. Davidson and the sweetest part of the street - Miraloma Park. Quiet, great neighbors and just a cool spot in The City. We moved here from Hayes Street (near Masonic) over 5 years ago. The downside - you have to go down to Glen Park, over to West Portal or over the hill to 24th or the Castro for the best selection of shopping/eats etc. Ocean street is trying to get it on, but its still a drive from Miraloma.
