"Loud and boring"
There's a really cool building on the corner of Watts and Washington that was one of the first factories converted into residential buildings in the neighborhood. It was a factory in 1892 and now it's a very, very expensive apartment building with a view of the Hudson. There's a cool Italian restaurant on the ground floor making life impossibly easy for the people who live in this building, eh? Next door is another old, conversion building that is much smaller but equally as lovely and expensive.
The buildings across Greenwich are also all historical landmark factories cum residences aside from the one on the corner of Hudson which is an educational facility for kids. Across Hudson, the neighborhood has much more of a commercial feel with massive, new buildings and a lot of traffic and hustle bustle. The corner of Watts and Hudson houses the 92Y Tribeca. It's the south outpost of the 92nd street YMCA but I love the comedy shows here. Some of my favorite shows in the city are in this spot. The building is very sleek for a Y if you ask me. The block between Hudson and Varick is entirely taken up by the Holland Tunnel entrance so not only is there nothing to report on the street, but I would actually avoid it unless you need the tunnel. The traffic is awful and incredibly loud right here.
Across Varick is an empty lot where a Federal rowhouse used to be (thanks, New York) and a little hotel . . . and nothing else.
There's really nothing in the way of things to do on Watts and it's very loud with no neighborhood kind of energy. It's one of my least favorite streets in the neighborhood and it's too bad because it starts off so promising.
