"Too commercial but no good commerce"
West 14th marks the border of Greenwich and Flatiron or Greenwich and Chelsea as you move west. It's a largely commercial area. 14th is insanely busy all times of day or night. There aren't any brownstones or trees. And, there aren't any cool restaurants or bars. I feel like this part of 14th is the street you walk to get somewhere else. The apartments here aren't cheap, and if you're facing an avenue, good luck sleeping at night. It's just too busy and dirty here for me to ever want to look at an apartment.
There are two really pretty buildings right on the corner of West 14th and 5th Ave. They're quite tall and brick which is very Greenwich to me. They were both built at the turn of the 20th and now one of them houses a Lucille Roberts Fitness which I find really funny. I would be way more impressed with the integrity of the building if it housed an old school mob, but I doubt anyone else would like that. Still, they're really nice to look at. And, I prefer the old school skyscrapers though I know the steel ones found outside of Greenwich are far more functional. Right next to one of the buildings (at 9 West 14th) is where e.e. Cummings lived before he moved to Patchin Place. I think Patchin Place was, obviously, an extraordinary move up in the world, but, then again, I don't know what this area looked like 100 years ago. Maybe it was a bit more tranquil.
A piece of the original Macy's still stands at 56 and it is really a beautiful chunk of building. Just up at the corner of 6th and 14th was a competing department store that now houses a giant Urban Outfitters. That building is stunning as well. The block between 5th and 6th has a really interesting and lovely array of big building architecture, but the businesses that are housed in these buildings are weird and I'm not sure how they stay in business. It's an incredibly busy chunk of street, and I don't know anyone that even admits to patronizing the Taco Bell right here.
Come to think of it, the same goes for the block between 6th and 7th. A lot of beautiful buildings (the Met used to be on the south side of this block before moving uptown) and a lot of history. But, now it's bizarre businesses and apartments.

"Live here when you're young"
I love to live on this street for all the reasons everyone else loves it, it's fun, it's happening, it's full of energy. But I think I wouldn't imagine myself five years from now, so for me it's a place of transition, best enjoyed when you're young and carefree.

"semi-artsy, trendy"
Another shopping area in Manhattan, but 14th street is less crowded and boasts an ability to sell handmade products as well as the commonplace Forever 21 and Wet Seal. Union Square is a popular hang out spot during sunny days, and there are often rallies and celebrations held in the square. The street is easily navigable.

"Full of Surprises"
I have lived in this neighborhood for almost a year now, and I never cease to be amazed at how quickly storefronts come and go here. This is especially true for restaurants and markets. Right on the block between 7th and 8th avenue, you will find three spectacular markets ranging in order of pricyness: Associated Supermarkets, West Side Market, and Balducci's. The latter has a great prepared foods bar and a variety of organic fruits and vegetables West Side Market has the biggest selection of cheeses I have seen in any store short of a cheese shop. Another great asset of this street is the McBurney YMCA, which is very well equipped with modern exercise machines and has enough space for any type of exercise. It has a great weight room, as well, geared for all levels of experience. W 14th street is conveniently located on the L train line, however, when this train does not function too well, it is best to take the M 14 bus.

"Hip and trendy area"
Wall Street money and the hip and trendy have driven major retailers into the area and designers are a dime a dozen in the area. It's nice, but it's not necessary, and it's created a massive amount of foot traffic through an area that was largely underdeveloped in the past. It's got a great atmosphere, though, and the food is wonderful. Galicia was a great spot for some amazing food, but the good restaurants are plentiful in the area and a resident or visitor won't have a hard time finding something great to eat.

"Less Crowded Shopping"
If you are looking for an area to shop in New York, thats not crowded...think again you won't find it.
But, there does exist 14th street, which is less crowded and busy than 34th street and has similar stores.
14th street has a variety of clothing stores, such as Forever 21, DSW Warehouse, Filene's Basement, and Strawberry's. There is also an Urban Outfitters and American Eagle Outfitters in the vicinity.
It is also home to one of the only mega record stores left in the city, Virgin Mega Store.
There is always something going on in Union Square, whether it be a festival or street fair, the area is fun to go take a walk on a Saturday and enjoy the people and the energy.
The trains that run close by are the 4,5,6,L,A,C,2,3,N,R trains.

"This is New York City"
Union square is always filled with people, food, walking, and life. There is a ton of shopping available ranging from clothing to grocery stores. There is a large Virgin mega store, a hangout for youth. Grab a latte at Starbucks and take a stroll through the park, where you’ll always find a demonstration, live music, local vendors, and a farmer’s market. There are wonderful live performers as well. I saw a great show of skateboarders performing mind-blowing tricks. This is a wonderful to catch a picture of the city. Nearby NYU gives the area a collegiate feel, though it is a hallowed spot for the earthy individualists of the village.

"An experience that touches"
On a trip to New York and Ground Zero was a must see from the beginning, only heard about this museum from a work colleague not long before we went so decided to book it.
Located in the Meat Packing District it doesn't look much from the outside but don't be fooled when you go in you are surronded by some amazing and moving pictures and artefacts from that horrific day in September.
You are allowed 2 hours to go round looking at everything at your own pace and you can easily spend longer than that, it is all about the amazing recovery work that went on afterwards. Can't speak highly enough of this excellent museum and would go back there in an instant, definitley one of if not the highlight of our 5 day stay in the city.

"About 14th Street"
Famous for its high-end stores (Jeffrey New York, Stella McCartney, DDCLab, Alexander McQueen, La Perla, to name a few), scrumptious restaurants, hip residences, famous bars, popular structures (Andrew Norwood House) 14th street had made its name for the local residents and even the tourists visiting the famous New York City.
