West Temple gets its name because this road runs along the West corner of the L.D.S. (Mormon) Temple. There are several Mormon temples throughout utah and the streets are done in a grid pattern determined by how many blocks they are north, south, east, or west of the temple in their area. This can be somewhat confusing when two surrounding areas grow together.

West Temple in Salt Lake city is West of the Salt Lake Temple. This Temple was the first temple built in Utah. You can find lots of LDS History at Temple Square. There are many buildings and tours available.

One of the most used resources offered by the L.D.S. church is the Family History Museum located on West Temple. At this museum you can access genealogical information that has been collected and recorded by church members. Genealogy and Family History is very important in the L.D.S. culture. This collection may be the largest collection of Family History in the world. Visitors can stop by and see if they can find their own family tree listed in the computers at the Family History Museum.
