Westerleigh
"Best tree lined street in Staten Island"
Westerleigh is a neighborhood full of character and charm. The area, for the most part, avoided the boom of new construction on Staten Island. Many of the streets in Westerleigh are still tree lined with homes dating back to the early 1900s. I may catch some flack for saying this, but College Avenue in Westerleigh has to be the best tree lined street in Staten Island, if not the entire city. Yes, there are several others, but this is a great street! The area, for some who haven’t visited, has a feel of some southeastern U.S. towns, especially towns I have visited in North Carolina like Winston-Salem.
The best part of Westerleigh is Westerleigh Park and the Gazebo. During the spring if you take a drive around the park and neighborhood you can be easily mesmerized by the charm of this community. Homes in this area feature large property, picket fences, and yes, flag poles. There are newer homes in the area and some semi-attached homes, which are affordable options for young families and newly marrieds just starting out.
Dining and shopping is difficult in this area, like most Staten Island communities. These areas are highly residential and planners are not accustomed to constructing a mall in the middle of a new track of homes.
