Are you a young profession looking for office space (as Sara address above) or a place to live? Westchester is very popular with professionals and celebrities as the "country" escape from life in the big city (NYC). With the exception of our "large" cities like White Plains, Peekskill and Yonkers, the county is divided into dozens of hamlets, villages, and towns of small size where a professional can afford to buy a sizable home as their castle in a quiet and safe neighborhood.
I live in Briarcliff Manor which is mostly professional with managers (9%), top executives (9%), Lawyers (8%), Sales reps (7%), Computer specialists (6%), Physicians and surgeons (5%).
My neighbors include two school teachers, an artist, and the owner of an oil co-op.

I personally like The Highlands in White Plains since I am a resident there. It's suburbia with a 3 minute walk to the City.

Depends on what your profession is. If you want to run a shop or small business, Peekskill has great spaces to own or rent that are waiting to be snagged for reasonable prices all over the city (even in the heart of town---check out South Street, for example). White Plains is also an entrepreneur's dream, as you're in the heart of a major city that's not too far from NYC and easy to commute by train. Just a tip: Westchester is great for professional commuters who want to live in a well-populated but quieter area than NYC. It's got lots of train stations and bus routes, but in some areas, you might need a car to get around.
