"Wilder is actually pretty milder"
Wilder runs through Makiki district, so it's home to lots of condo owners; smaller families, couples, students, and dog/pet owners. In the center is Makiki Shopping Center with grocery store, Korean BBQ, Subway, and some other small shops. Also, nearby is Makiki District Park, a nice family park -- tennis, swimming, skateboard, jungle-gym, swings, more. Not far from there is Punahou Street, with Punahou School and Kapiolani Hospital.
At one end of Wilder is the connection to University of Hawaii, Manoa campus. The Bus #4 runs the entire line, #18 runs most of Wilder. At the other end is Punchbowl area and Thurston street (which heads to Ward Avenue).
