"Great Street for a lazy Saturday"
Larchmont definitely isn't for the young and single, but it's such a lovely street to hang out on. It's definitely catered to families or the married set because of the area. Larchmont is the commercial street in Hancock Park-- which is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the city. Naturally, there aren't too many young singles living in the neighborhood.
Larchmont is pretty jam packed with restaurants. They're practically on top of each other. There are two bagel shops within a block, several little Italian spots, three sushi places -- it's pretty insane. The thing I really like about this setup on the street is that they are all tiny joints with the majority of them having sidewalk seating. This street looks very much like a Greenwich street minus the crappy weather. My favorite of these places is Bottega. It has a lovely patio / sidewalk area and great food. It's so quaint and some of my favorite Saturdays in memory have been eating too much pasta with a bottle (or two) of wine with friends on the patio. We would stay there for hours some days. It's pretty awesome.
As far as shopping, there are a ton of boutiques but they can be pretty hit or miss. I can never remember the name of it, but the Petticoats and something store has an amazing jeans section for women along with overpriced but glorious wardrobe staples. Larchmont Beauty is the best beauty supply store in the city. They have everything you can't find anywhere else. I can spend an hour in this store just investigating new products.
There can be some uptight people on this street and a lot of strollers but I love it. It always seems a little sunnier around these parts. And, for an added bonus, you can walk through the surrounding streets and oogle all of the mansions after brunch.
