"Passable Apartments, Nice Area"
Creekside Drive in south Walnut Creek is basically apartment row. You just have one apartment complex after another along this street. On the far northern end of the street there is a senior care apartment complex and then as you head down along Creekside you get a series of 1970’s style apartments complexes on both the right and left side of the street. The kind of apartment complexes that you expect to see Jack Tripper stepping out of at any moment.
These are basically just stacked boxes with very little thought beyond how many units can be piled one on another without making things too oppressive. But they are relatively affordable for Walnut Creek.
Although these are not the nicest apartments in Walnut Creek they are very well positioned for those who are priced out of the nicer spots in the city. You can basically find a one bedroom around here for around $1100 (some falling to about $1000 others rising as far as $1250). These days that is about as inexpensive as it gets in a place like this.
The other nice thing about this place is that you are basically within walking--or certainly biking distance--of Downtown Walnut Creek. Which is great in terms of entertainment and work options. You really can’t ask for anything better than that for that price these days.
As to the usual worry in lower rent areas--crime--it is relatively mild with no incidents reported from the apartments on Creekside in the second half of 2012 and only about a half dozen assaults in the surrounding areas. (50 total incidents of any kind.) The apartment buildings do have one registered sex offender and the surrounding areas have two or three more, but overall this is pretty a safe area despite this.
The schools here are great too--from Muirwood Elementary to Las Lomas High it doesn't really get any better.
Overall, this is a very passable area to live. Great for singles and unmarried couples and that kind of thing. Doable for divorced parents needing cheap digs near their former haunts.
