"Lovely apartments but it's just apartments"
54th isn't the most Sutton Place of all Sutton Place streets. It's more of an apartment street than anything else. And, there's no youth on this street except for really little kids. It doesn't have the sprawl that a lot of this neighborhood has, but it's not a bad street to live on by any means.
54th at 2nd Avenue is all apartment buildings that went up in the '70's. They're not the fancy houses that Sutton Place is known for, but these apartments are nothing to scoff at either. They're all the fancy doorman kind of set up; and, weirdly, the simple addition of a doorman hikes the rent up astronomically.
The block at first is more of the same with really fancy, doorman buildings and nothing else. There aren't any bars or restaurants and there's not much of an energy around here. It's just busy bodying from all of the 1st and 2nd Avenue traffic and then it's pretty quiet outside of that. This is way more of a family and retired neighborhood than a hip mover and shaker kind of hood. Georgia O'Keefe lived at 405 East 54th and I think that's pretty cool. But, there aren't a lot of trend setting artists around here now.
