Roosevelt National Forest is administered from Fort Collins but the forest stretches from the Boulder area all the way to Wyoming. There are country roads and homes scattered throughout the forest but for the most part it is a big deep forest with some trails and rivers/creeks. The area just west of Fort Collins Horsetooth Res is a great access point into the forest for hiking, camping and mountain biking. The pretty Poudre River canyon just north of town is also part of the national forest. If you go far enough west you hit Estes and Rocky Mountain National Park.
