"Los Verdes"
This neighborhood is west of Hawthorne Blvd., south of Silver Spur Road, and north of Hess Park. The homes in this area are all single family residences, and terrace down the west side of the Peninsula, thus many of the homes have views. These homes are almost all tract homes built in the 1960's and 1970's although many have been updated.
Hesse Park, located on Hawthorne Boulevard, has 29 acres, 2 softball diamonds, soccer fields, running track, children's play area , community room, and restrooms. Hesse park is also where the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council and Planning Commission holds its public meetings.
Most of the cultural activities for the city are located in Rolling Hills Estates, adjacent to Rancho Palos Verdes. These include the Norris Center for the Performing Arts, the Peninsula Symphony, and the PV Players. The Palos Verdes Art Center is located in the City of Rancho Palos Verdes.
Public Golf Facilities are available at nearby Los Verdes Country Club. Los Verdes is a public golf course run by the County of Los Angeles.

"Los Verdes- Rancho Palos Verdes California"
Located on the ocean facing hills above the Pacific Ocean on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Los Verdes is an enclave of approximately 1400 homes that were built in the 1960's and 70's. The houses range in size from approximately 1450 sq. ft. to 2900 sq. ft. There are some exceptions now that a few original homes have been replaced with custom homes. Right now, there is only one home for sale for $905,000 on Golden Meadow Drive.
Vista Grande Elementary, located in Los Verdes, is the largest elementary school on the Palos Verdes Peninsula with approximately 536 students. The 2010 Academic Performance Index for Vista Grande is 952.
Here's what is wonderful about the Los Verdes neighborhood:
1. Most of the homes have ocean and Catalina Island views. As you drive around the neighborhood, the ocean is always in sight.
2. Hesse Park which is adjacent to Los Verdes offers a large variety of activities for the residents including baseball & soccer fields, walking paths, playgrounds and a community center where the city hall meetings are held. Proposed plans are underway to develop lower Hesse Park with three tennis courts, a basketball court, two green lawns for picnics and a family playground area.
3. Located less than two miles from the center of town, Los Verdes is ideally located for shopping and theater going.
4. Hawthorne Boulevard borders one side of the neighborhood, providing easy off the hill access.
5. There are various forms of wildlife throughout the neighborhood including peacocks, raccoons, hawks, oppossums, squirrels and skunks, to name a few.
6. Much of Los Verdes was originally populated by aerospace workers in the '60's. It is interesting to note that many of the early residents are still residing in the neighborhood. I think that speaks well for a community that seems to be serving it's residents well.
A word of caution: Because Los Verdes is located on the ocean side of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, it is prone to fog more than the non-ocean side. As a result, the temperature can be cooler as well.
