Lyell Ave
"One for the boys"
It’s a little bit out of the way but if you are on a trip away with the guys, Lyell Avenue can add some of sense of masculinity to the trip. With a couple of strip clubs there is an immediate reason to head here with the boys but its just a lot closer to the darker or seedier side of New York that people want to encounter. I never experienced any trouble or noticed anything untoward but the style of living is very different from the cleaned up and commercial image that New York likes to portray. Get yourself some unhealthy food, a few beers and have a great time.

Lyell Ave
"Lyell Ave Home of the garbage plate."
I wouldn't want to live on Lyell ave. This area is a very bad section of the city. There is a lot of crime and drug activity in this area. There is even a strip club or two on this road. One thing that is good is the Garbage plates that are made on Lyell. If your not from Rochester your probably wonder what is a garbage plate. I know it sounds awful but really does taste good. You get a burger with macaroni salad, chili cheese fries and sauce piled on one plate. You eat this mixture but it actually really good. Rochester is famous for them. You can get them at almost every restaurant.

"Lyell avenue, good for getting fast food, bad for living"
I had a few friends who lived on Lyell Avenue while in Rochester. While it has the convenience of stretching into downtown Rochester and out to major suburbs to the west, there are a lot of problems living on the street, including crime, vandalism, and safety with drivers. It is no place to have a family, especially with children. However, it is incredibly convenient for people in Rochester as the street has many important retail places. To eat, go to Nick Tahou's, grab a garbage plate, and devour what may be the tastiest yet most unhealthy dinner in the city.
