"Metropolitan Ave / Parkchester has its ups and downs"
Metropolitan Avenue, as well as the rest of the Streets in the Parkchester community are very well kept. The streets are tree-lined, and there are several playgrounds throughout the area, which offer great free activities for community children. There is also a high security presence. In the winter Metropolitan Oval is decked out for the holidays, which I loved as a kid and still enjoy today when I go back to visit.
There are several restaurants, laundromats, drug stores, grocery stores, shops and supermarkets up and down Metropolitan Avenue.
The downsides of Parkchester are extremely limited parking and trigger happy tow guys. Also, building construction leaves much to be desired. The walls are paper thin it is not hard to hear entire conversations, arguments, parties, sex, bathroom activity, etc coming out of your neighbors apartment. I've lived in Parkchester off and on for nearly 30 years and I've always had relatives there in all of this time they still have not figured out the plumbing situation and bathroom paint/tiles. Residence of Parkchester know the regular posting of the all too familiar signs in the lobby stating that the water will be shut off; and I wish I knew what type of paint and grout they use in the bathrooms and why the paint ALWAYS bubbles and chips and the tiles ALWAYS fall off the walls.
Despite the downs of Metropolitan Ave its a pretty cool area as far as the Bronx goes; it was a nice place to live.
