Mifflin St
"Tight-Knit Working Class Neighborhood"
Mifflin Street is a pretty quaint neighborhood during the day. Most of the residents are families with small children, or families with extended members living with them. This can make for an excellent environment to live in. There are quite a few local stores, meaning you don't have to travel very far to get beverages, food items, or other necessities. Transportation in the area is good, including the subway.
I would not, however, recommend this area at night. It's in a pretty high-crime location of South Philadelphia. This doesn't detract from the overall neighborhood, but rather is a reminder to use common safety sense and travel in groups after dark. I've only ever found myself in one sticky situation, and it was very uncomfortable.
I have not lived on this street, but used to hang out and sleep over at a friend's who lived here quite frequently. I spent the good part of most summers in the area, and it gave me a pretty good feel for how it is.
Overall, the people are pleasant, the neighborhood is mainly pleasant, and the location is accessible. Bonuses include that it's pretty close to the Italian Market, and both Pat's and Geno's cheesesteaks!
