"A college town with great appeal"

Although Fort Collins is widely known as the home of the CSU Rams, it has much more to offer than just academics. The town itself has over 146,000 residents in this pretty city north of Denver and has a mix of service related and manufacturing jobs. Some of the larger employers are Advanced Energy, Agilent Technologies, and AMD, a graphics and media solutions company. The median household income is just shy of $51,000 and the median home price is $213,000.

Fort Collins has a lovely Old Town which has numerous older buildings that now house restaurants, antique shops, and retail stores. Recently I became aware of a tour that takes place every weekend and goes through the older buildings talking about the hauntings that occur there. Some of the buildings are part of the former jail and morgue. Regardless of whether or not you believe in ghosts, this sounds like a fun tour full of history and fun.

While I don't get to Fort Collins often, I do enjoy the laid back feel of it. There are some really cute neighborhoods that have nice homes with large trees that I would certainly consider living in.

"If I didn't live here already, I'd move here!"

A good mix of country and city. The University provides rich diversity. Many energetic retirees move here to be closer to children and grandchildren, making the Fort Collins Senior Center a hub of fun activities and fitness opportunities.

"The best little city ever"

Fort Collins is my ideal place to live. The community thrives with all the opportunities our foothills provide from outdoor activities to a one of a kind nightlife. Local support is something that is embraced and encouraged. Downtown offers local spice, olive oil, and sweet shops as well as countless restaurants to satisfy any taste. Every side of town has something different to offer. You can get all your shopping done in SE Fort Collins, hiking/biking/exploring on the West, and fulfill your night life on the North side in Downtown Fort Collins. Colorado State University brings a lot excitement to the area, we are proud to be CSU Rams! Fort Collins experiences four seasons and is beautiful throughout them all; gotta love that sunshine! It absolutely accommodates a well balanced lifestyle! FoCo fosho!

"For Collins is a great mix of old and news in northern Colorado"

Fort Collins is my second favorite Front Range city, second to Boulder where I call home. I like the feel of Fort Collins, it has a cowboy edge and Old Town/downtown is fun. I get to Fort Collins several times a year, usually on the way to Red Feather Lakes north of the city about 30 more minutes. I often stop to eat at one of the many restaurants in the historic downtown area or shop around a bit or get groceries on my way to camping.

CSU is very different from CU-Boulder but they are both excellent Colorado schools. CSU is known for is agricultural sciences whereas CU Boulder for its technological, space and engineering sciences among other things. The rivalry is serious but at least from Boulder's perspective there is love for Fort Collins. The people seem to be genuine and represent real northern Colorado.

There are a lot of new subdivisions and it is hard to know when Loveland ends and Fort Collins begins anymore. The homes and neighborhoods in southern Fort Collins look really nice. There are a lot of cool neighborhoods and the cost of living is more reasonable than Denver or Boulder from what I understand, but not by as much as people imagine. Fort Collins has gotten some top "best places to live in the U.S." awards over the years.

The school district is named after the Cache de Poudre River that runs through town, the Poudre School District is a great district from what I have heard and is one of the largest employers in the city second only to CSU (Hewlett Packer is also a big employer). Fort Collins seems to really value and support education and kids and it makes a great great place to raise a family. There are also a lot of charter and private schools in town.
Pros
  • great nightlife
  • inviting community
  • relaxed atmosphere
Cons
  • some may not appreciate the presence of the college

"Something for everyone in Fort Collins"

Home to Colorado State University – one of the best veterinary schools in the country – Fort Collins is definitely a college town. Full of bars, coffee shops, and kids on bikes, this city is bursting with the kind of life that comes from a large population of students.

However, Fort Collins is unique in that the busy college atmosphere doesn’t take away from the rest of the town. The city has a charm all its own, whether you’re a student, a graduate, or someone who’s just arrived in northern Colorado. Everyone can appreciate the life and liveliness of Fort Collins.

Located just forty minutes north of Denver, the trip to Fort Collins immediately takes you out of bustle of city traffic and into more rural country – farms, prairies, and grazing land for cattle. The town itself is a decent size (about 150,000 people), but it fits seamlessly with the hills and plains surrounding it. This gives the city a nostalgic feeling – old meets new; town meets country.

Fort Collins is a bit of a hippie town, in the best possible way. Like Seattle or Portland, the community is full of love for the environment and love for art. Co-ops sell works by local painters and sculptors; a bike library allows people to rent bicycles for the day; thrift stores offer back-to-school specials; and clubs are jam-packed with music lovers on Friday nights.

There are plenty of outdoor activities as well, including boating, fishing, hunting, and hiking. In particular, Horsetooth Reservoir (located just west of Fort Collins), is full of trails for hikers and campers.
In case you haven’t seen it in my glowing review, Fort Collins is one of my favorite Colorado cities. I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for a lively, artistic place to live.

"The city that Mainstreet USA at Disneyland was based on"

Fort Collins really is a cute little town. I always enjoy visiting. Parking in Old Town and Downtown is tough, but the good news is the area is so small that you can really park outside of downtown and walk in.
