"The Heart of San Jose...for What That's Worth"
South Market Street certainly has some attractions - the Museum of Art and the Technology Museum are two biggies, and the surrounding restaurants are not too shabby, either. However, the whole neighborhood has a bit of a strange atmosphere attached to it.
It is almost like a wolf in sheep's clothing - the area is designed to cater to high-end working Silicon Valley professionals, with five-star restaurants and one of the visibly cleanest transit systems in the area. However, the working professionals seem to be few and far between, the area is a bit barren, and there are an unusually high number of homeless people given the area. As soon as the sun starts to set, the area begins to feel far less safe.
I do have to give this street credit, however, because the technology museum really is one of the best spots to visit in Silicon Valley. As an added bonus, the parking in the area is usually relatively accessible given that it is a downtown urban metropolis.

"Great food and art"
Alrght the main attraction for me is the San Jose Museum of Art. I love the glass chandeliers and sculptures that are always there. They also have new and different exhibits regularly. There is lots of contemporary art and some mixed media. They have a lot of exhibits to interest kids like one time they had robots so a great way to get kids into art. They even have some art by children on display.
If you want to see some architectural art check out the cathedral. I don’t go to that church but it looks great from an art stand point. Il Fornaio is good Italian with big windows and archways for an airy atmosphere. Also check out McCormics for seafood.

"Market of Museums"
I don't think you could find a street with more to do. There are a slew of museums including the beautiful San Jose Art Museum and The tech Museum. There is plenty of shopping and is definitely a staple for those visitors and tourists to this fair city. Nearby in the Plaza de Cesar Chavez, there is often times live music, festivals, and even an outdoor theater. On this road, you'll never find yourself bored, unless of course, you don't enjoy beautiful weather, interesting people, and things that inspire the mind and soul.
