"A Strange Little Street"
First Street is a little bit of an oddity, because it breaks off at one point and picks up again some 30 feet over. First street is where you find one of the onramps for the 24. It is right at the end of the BART parking, so public transportation isn't far. There are some office buildings and a a strip mall on one side and a much bigger shopping area on the other.
South of Mount Diablo Blvd., you are right by the new Lafayette Public Library--its a real beauty. I haven't had the pleasure of going inside yet but I am planning on it soon. Right before first street breaks off just past the poorly located Taco Bell, there is a good Chinese restaurant (although a little pricey as I remember it.)
When 1st picks up again it borders the back area of the elemenary school. Its a one way street from this point and the houses are smallish, especially for Lafayette. Its an okay neigbhorhood, within walking distance of the main shopping area in Lafayette, but the neighborhood feels a little cramped here. On the otherhand, there are sidewalks, which is a definite point to note in a city where sidewalks are few and far between.
