"Standard Mission District Street"
Unlike some of the streets that run north to south in the Mission, 19th street is a bit more residential. It definitely feels a bit more rough around the edges than some of the other neighborhoods, although I've never felt explicitly unsafe.
There are some restaurants, but nothing like you would find on Mission, Folsom, or Valencia. This definitely has a bit of a sketchy feel, but I would prefer to live here by far than downtown Oakland or Richmond.
To be fair, 19th runs through much of the rest of the city, and I only know this one stretch. It is segmented and broken up in several areas.
I have to echo the sentiment of another reviewer in that I would not want to live here, give the proximity to both 101 and 280.

"Surprisingly clean and friendly"
My aunt and uncle bought a place here so that their kids could go to Daniel Webster for school. When I visited I was surprised to find the area so nice, despite being so close to I-280. The street actually has pretty light traffic, considering that it’s a large, through street. Also, there are several active neighborhood associations, helping to keep things clean. This general area of the city has developed much more in recent years, and is becoming much safer than it used to be. There’s even a whole foods a few blocks down on Rhode Island!

19th St
"Busy and lively"
19th St. runs halfway through the city. It is a very long street that passes by Portrero Hill, Mission Dolores, and then Castro. It is a pretty busy street. It runs right next to a few schools and a few parks. There are businesses and stores all around the street. It runs through Dolores Park, which is a very big, popular park. This street is safe in some places and not very safe in others. There is access to many muni buses throughout this street. It is close to the 24, 14, 49 and many others.

"Terrible street to live on"
19th street is not a very good street to live on, because of all the traffic. The noise is terrible I’m sure, and it would be nearly impossible to back out from your driveway if you lived on this street. The traffic is due to the fact that 19th leads to the 280 highway, which will take you to San Jose. The road itself is in decent condition, there are quite a bit of potholes and cracks, but nothing that will damage tires too badly.
