"Sketchy but Parking-Friendly"
8th Street is technically south of the "Skid Row" district of San Francisco, but it still has a bit of that sketchy feel. To be homest, there really isn't too much here, aside from a gas station, some small hotels, access to I-80 and a few sparse fast food joints (and, of course, some winos, just to make life interesting).
It's not a bad spot to park if you want to walk to Union Square or the Financial District, but be aware that the proximity to the 80/280 junction, as well as AT&T Park, can make for some pretty gnarly traffic at certain times of day. And for navigation purposes, don't forget that it runs diagonally, not west/east like its southern neighbors.
All in all, there isn't too much to see here, and there is a bit of a sketchy vibe, but not as much as some of the neighboring streets.

"Plain street, nothing really to it"
I’ve rode my bike on 8th Street quite often and the traffic on this street is somewhat heavy at times, which makes my time there on the street more enjoyable. I’d say that most of the traffic comes from the fact that there is a freeway exit leading to 8th Street, however there is no freeway entrance leading from 8th Street, so for those commuting on 8th Street, make sure to never try and enter the freeway on this street. I’ve seen people try to do so and boy it’s dangerous and foolish-looking. There are a few places to eat at on 8th Street. The only place I know specifically is the Moonstar Buffet on 8th and Market which I believe has already closed down… sadly, I loved that place ever since I went there when I was young. There isn’t much on 8th Street other than mechanical businesses, one or two hotels, and some MUNI stops here and there.

"The down town street"
This street is your simple down town looking street. It has the time to time traffic, but its really not as bad as most. You have some stores that you can buy clothing at and other items at. It also has a few trees that help make the street come to life. At night you can really see the lights that the city has to offer from this street.
