Rockville Rd
"Small but nice Park..."
Rockville Road is home to Rockville Ridge Regional Park, a tucked-away hiking area with some stunning views. Fairfield is not exactly the place that one would think to hit the trail, but given that it is less than ten minutes from I-80 and nestled in the lovely North Bay foothills that can be seen from anywhere in the area, it is a nice little trip.
The parking lot is tiny, and it is definitely a "blink and you miss it" kind of place. I am still back and forth on whether or not the $3 fee is worth it - on the one hand, it is considerably cheaper than other Bay Area parks, but on the other hand, you get a dirt parking lot, a tiny outhouse, a couple of trails...and not much else.
The handful of trails on the open, rolling hills here offer stunning views of the surrounding area almost immediately after you start walking, which only get better as you ascend the hill. There aren't a ton of options to choose from, but this is a beautiful area on a winter day when the grass is green and the foliage is blooming. They are currently in the process of doing some trail maintenance, so there are some orange barricades closer to the ground, but these disappear as you go up. Overall, this is a nice little hidden spot to get away.
