South Ashland Ave, Near West Side

For many years thousands of Chicagoans toiled away in the Union Stockyards. Upon closing the stockyard properties opened up to residential development. This urban development gave rise to the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The Back of the Yards neighborhood is around 7.5 miles SW of the loop. The Back of the yard neighborhood is located aroud W. 47th Street Between S. Western Boulevard and the Dan Ryan Expressway. Primarily a residential neighborhood Back of the Yards does have a small number of resturants and bars that cater to local residents and to sports fans visiting nearby U.S. Cellular Field. The Back of the Yards neighborhood is probably best know for it's large number of single family houses. The properties are available in a variety of sizes and price ranges. The only knock on this neighborhood is it is noisy due to its proximity to the freeway.
