Avery Rd
"Avery Rd - Changing Fast"
Avery Rd begins in Hilliard and travels north to Dublin and ends at Glick Rd. At one time, Avery Rd was a two lane country road. Many people travelled on it to go the Franklin County Fair. Now, in some places it has been expanded into six lanes. Recently two roundabouts have been added. You can still see some corn and soybean fields, but not many. Travel is heavy at times, especially near Hilliard Davidson HS and the Rte 33/270 interchanges. The new Dublin Methodist Hospital is close to Avery Rd. It also passes two golf courses, Ballantrae and Riviera. It runs through some upscale residential neighborhoods with parks and schools close by.

North High St
"High St/Route 23"
High St/Route 23 is one of the major street in Columbus. It starts at 270 on the south side, and travels north through the heart of the city. This street has seen many changes over the years, including residential and commercial development and decline. Since the flagship Lazarus store closed several years ago, the downtown portion of High Street is not the same. The City Center Mall is now a white elephant, but The Short North is doing very well. Suburban growth, north of 270/Worthington area is phenomenal. High St passes OSU and its sprawling urban campus. It's a street that includes close residential neighborhoods like German Village and Clintonville. It's such a familiar street that most residents of the Columbus urban area have travelled on it one time or another..

Sawmill Rd
"Sawwmill Rd - Old and New"
Sawmill Rd begins at Henderson Rd and travels north through a wide variety of neighborhoods and commercial areas. It currently ends at Home Rd in Delaware Co. OSU still has some of its animal barns in the area, and you can often see horses grazing out in the fields. You are also close to Don Scott Field, so if you are looking for a place to land, this is it. Some of the retail areas along Sawmill are older, but it is always crowded especially near the Rte 161 intersection. Sometimes you can get stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, especially on Friday afternoons. Sawwmill Rd is lined with stores, restaurants, a golf course, condomimiuns and single-family homes. There is still some vacant land available, but I don't think it will be vacant long.

Riverside Dr
"Riverside Dr/Rte 257 - Along the River"
Riverside Dr begins downtown and travels north along the east side of the Sciot River. As you drive this road, you will travel through Columbus, Grandview, Upper Arlington, Hilliard, Dublin, and Powell. It is similar to Dublin Rd in that therre are many interesting sites along the way - parks, marinas, a dam, residential areas, restaurants, shopping, and The Columbus Zoo. The people who are lucky enough to own one of the houses high on the bluffs overlooking the river have a great view. It is especially lovely in the autumn with all of the reds, golds, and yellows in the trees. If you are travelling from downtown to any of the suburbs mentioned above, this is one of the best drives to take.

Memorial Dr
"Memorial Dr - Jack's Place"
Memorial Dr runs east/west between Dublin Rd and Muirfield Dr. If you are from the Columbus area, and you are a golf fan, you are very familiar with this road as it leads to Muirfield Village Golf Club. This is the course that Jack Nicklaus built several years ago. It is home to the annual Memorial Tournament. Lined with large trees and beautiful homes, this is one of the most prestigious streets in the Dublin area. Some good advice. . .avoid this area during the tournament!

Dublin Rd
"Dublin Rd/Rte 745 - Travel Between"
Dublin Rd begins close to downtown Columbus, then travels north on the west side of the Scioto River. It passes through Hilliard and Dublin, and continues north to end at Rte 42 in Delaware Co. There are some interesting sites sites along this road including a quarry, beautiful upscale neighborhoods, charming shops and restaurants in Dublin, a golf course, Shawnee Hills, and the Ohio Wildlife Center. You can also stop to fish in the Twin Lakes close to O'Shaunessy dam. If you are interested in plants and landscape gardening, there are several outlets along the way. If you are elooking for a great breakfast, be sure to stop at Hellas in Shawnee Hills. This is one of my favorite drives as you can just enjoy the scenery. I never tire of it, I always find something that I have not seen before.

Bethel Rd
"Bethel Rd - Ongoing Change"
Bethel Rd begins at Riverside Dr and travels east to Rt 315. There are some residential areas on this street, mostly older apartments and condos. The commercial areas have changed over the years, and there is a great ethnic diversity in restaurants and shopping areas. Bethel is a very busy, high-traffic street. There is much commercial development including theaters, grocery stores, shopping centers, churches, and medical offices. You can find most services and entertainment along Bethel Rd. One of the best places to stop is Graeters's Ice Cream. You can watch them make some of the best ice cream in Columbus, then puchase a cone or a sundae to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Hayden Run Rd
"Hayden Run Rd - City and Country"
Hayden Run Rd begins at Riverside Dr, crosses the Scioto River, and travels west through Hilliard and Dublin. It ends near the Big Darby Creek in a very rural area of western Franklin Co. As you travel Hayden Run, you will pass Tuttle Mall, one of the larger suburban shopping malls in the area. You also have easy access to several restaurants and retail areas. In recent years, many condos and apartments have been built in the area. So, there is a wide choice of housing for just about anyone. Once you pass the mall, you travel through some very nice residential areas. You might even see some horses or sheep. Hayden Run is a great drive on a breezy, sunny spring day if you are looking for an alternate route to Plain City.

North High St
"Lane Ave - Scarlet & Gray"
Lane Ave begins at Riverside Dr and travels east through Upper Arlington and ends at the Ohio State University campus. This is an area of beautiful, older homes, and one of the prestigious residential neighborhoods in Columbus. Lane Ave passes by the Scioto Country Club, another bastion of Columbus tradition. As you get closer to OSU, you will find many shops, restaurants, and OSU's West Campus. During football season, this is a very popular area, and traffic may come to a complete standstill, especially near the stadium. But, if you are a Buckeye or just a fan, this is a road you want to travel.

Broad St Southwest
"Broad St - East"
Broad St is one of the older streets in Columbus. It IS broad, six lanes in some areas, as it travels east from downtown Columbus. Once home to beautiful, elaborate mansions, as your travel on Broad, you pass the Statehouse, the Colubus Art Museum, Franklin Park Conservatory, Capital University, and Columbus School for Girls. In Bexley, you will find good restaurants and the Drexel Theater. Continue east through Whitehall to Reynoldsburg. Some of the residential areas along Broad St have deteriorated, but others are thriving. This street has seen many changes in recent years, more commercial than residential , but it is a part of Columbus history..

Chardon Rd
"City and Country"
As you travel east on Chardon Rd, you leave one of the Metropolitan Parks, pass through several residential and commercial areas to the far eastern part of Ohio and Route 11. It may take awhile, but you will travel through some lovely wooded areas and small farms. There are several orchards and greenhouses along the way. Many people are looking for a laid-back lifestyle, so they have purchased homes or acerage in the area. A nice drive with some interesting places along the way.
