East 27th is a typical Brooklyn block lined by a mix of similar looking houses and unique new constructions. Its a quite one way street that doesn't see all that much traffic but yet is close enough to Nostrand Avenue as well as Bedford on the other side for shopping and a playground. It seems like a nice place to raise your kids because they can play outside safely with the other neighborhood kids and there is a good elementary school in the area as well as access to public transportation nearby.

Highland Avenue is a nice street to live on, and like most of Seagate it is quite, peaceful, and a nice place to raise your kids. The only problem with Highland Avenue is that the roads are a mess. Be careful driving down because potholes are abundant. From the second floor of some of the houses on Highland you can see the ocean and the smell of the ocean is notable too. Overall it is a nice street, in a gated community with its own little charm.

My father lived on Beach 47th Street and it is one of the most beautiful streets in Seagate. The lighthouse is at the end of the block and you can see the water from the balcony of all of the houses. The only problem with Beach 47th Street, like most Seagate blocks, is that there are huge potholes in the road and it is sometimes hard to get out of the dead end when cars are parked all over. All in all, however, Beach 47th Street takes you out of Brooklyn for a moment with the ocean air and the sounds of waves.

I've been seeing a lot of condominiums and residential complexes being built along Shore Pkwy recently and I cant figure out why anyone would want to live there. Shore Pkwy is basically a service road of the Belt Pkwy and is surrounded by the constant sound and smell of cars zooming down the Belt. Shore Pkwy is a dark and dirty street which is fine for driving down, but I couldn't imagine living on it.

My grandmother lived on Avenue W for a while and I loved visiting her simply because it was a place to get away from the bustle of the city. Its a quite street where cars rarely pass, the neighbors are friendly, and you can smell whats being cooked in the houses just by walking by. Close to Avenue U where you could get some fresh fish or go out for dinner, Avenue W is a great place to live when you want to be part of South Brooklyn without having to deal with the noise of it.

Avenue U is the place to go if your looking for some Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, or Japanese food without traveling too far out of South Brooklyn. Lined with stores on either side, Avenue U has great fish markets as well. It may seem a little dirty at times and the fish smell can get to you in the summer, but nothing compared to China Town. I have always loved eating at any of the Asian restaurants on Avenue U because the food is authentic and you don't have to go far to get it.

Nostrand Avenue is lined with stores on either side. There are supermarkets, clothes stores, furniture stores, as well as various take-out restaurants and a diner or two. While it is nice to have all these things close by, Nostrand Avenue itself isn't he most pleasant place to be at night. Since a number of projects run on one side of Nostrand it sometimes gives an earie feeling to walk down it at night. During the day, however, Nostrand is beaming with diversity and all different types of stores and hangouts.

My grandmother has lived on Ocean Avenue for quite a while and it is all in all a nice place to live. That is if you don't mind the noise of cars constantly zooming by. Buildings line Ocean Avenue on either side along with some nice restaurants farther south. Ginza Sushi on Ocean Avenue and Avenue X is one of my favorite sushi places in Brooklyn.

Bedford Avenue, particularly the part of it that runs into South Brooklyn, is a beautiful road which spawns into a green corridor in the spring with trees lining either side. It is peaceful, quite, and a great place to raise a family. I grew up coming to Bedford park on Bedford and Avenue Z when I was a child and have fond memories riding my bike down the bike lane on Bedford as I grew older. Follow Bedford into the beautiful neighborhood of Sheepshead Bay and see all the diverse kids playing together on the playground and running for Mr. Softee once they hear the music. I grew up just several blocks away on East 27th, but would spend most of my time on the playground in Bedford Park. Its the kind of area you feel safe in even at night and get to interact with your neighbors during the day.

Emmons Avenue, which runs along Sheepshead Bay provides a beautiful waterfront view with something for everybody. With tons of restaurants and lounges along Emmons Avenue you will never find a dull night. Take one of the many boats on Emmons Avenue for an early morning fishing trip or an evening tour of New York City. If your into Russian food try Baku Palace for dinner. There has been a lot of growth here lately and I've noticed a lot of new condominium developments. They aren't cheep but you get what you pay for: a waterfront apartment with the Sheepshead Bay train station close by (although the B4 bus does tend to run when it feels like it and rarely on schedule), and a mix of fine dining, fast food, and lounges right outside your door.

Overall, Emmons is a great place to go on a Saturday night to party or just hang out on the bay, and just as great of a place to live if you like being in the center of South Brooklyn culture.
