South Bellefield Ave
"The historical part"
This street is right next to one of the most emblematic building in Pittsburgh - the Cathedral of Learning. Built to symbolize the power and value of learning, you can think of it as a lighthouse. From this street you can directly access the wonderful chapel and the magnificent gardens. During spring and summer, this garden takes a lot of young people while reading or playing some nice games. This is a very nice area during the day, while at night it has nothing more than empty gardens.

Schenley Dr
"Green, green and green"
Green is the dominant color when you travel through Schenley Drive. During the spring, you can take a long walk and watch the beautiful surrounding area. Here you can also find the wonderful Phipps Conservatory Garden, where you can see very pleasant flowers and plants. There are always permanent exhibitions and some very good temporary ones. The orchids' room has a very good smell where you feel that you just entered a new world.
Walking or by car, this is a very good trip to make.

Centre Ave
"A central place"
This street has big stores like Giant Eagle and Whole Foods and so it represents a reference for the everyday living in the Shadyside area. During the day it has good environment, but during the night this is a place where you shouldn't walk alone. This is a tricky area but that you should also know, because there are hospitals and these stores.

Forbes Ave
"A live street"
Forbes avenue is another one of the major streets in Pittsburgh. It crosses almost all the town. In its portion in Oakland, this is a very much alive street. It contains everything that you might want. From big stores, to small shops and even some hospitals. A big number of restaurants and small places for eating gives the person a huge amount of options.
During the night this avenue gets a little bit awkward and in some zones even dangerous, but always manageable.

"A nice neighborhood"
I lived in this street while I studied in Pittsburgh. This is a nice neighborhood. All the houses are family houses with one or two floors. During the day and during the night it is a very quiet place, where you can sleep without any noise or any disturbance. It doesn't have any stores but everything is is a walk distance.
If you want to find a quiet place to stay, this is a street you should take a look.

Oakland Ave
"A student's place"
I lived in the Oakland area while I attended Carnegie Mellon, and this was clearly a students area. This street has a lot of places where students can rent full houses or individual rooms. The street has all the facilities in walk distance, like mini markets, drug store and so on. The environment is very pleasant, with a safety feeling, even during the nigh.

North Craig St
"A place to live"
This is a residential street in the Oakland area. It has very good family housing options, with houses for rent and with some places for nightly rents. It doesn't have a lot of shops, but is very good to stay quietly in the city. Very close to the two major universities campus, you can reach them within 5 or 10 minutes walking.

"Walnut - a shopping area"
Walnut street is definitely one of the most pleasant streets in Pittsburgh. It contains very nice and upper class stores, like Gap, Apple and Victoria Secrets. The surrounding area is very nice, and it is easy to find a parking space. During the night, it has very good restaurants with quality meals and some nice bars where you can relax and enjoy some spare time.
