"Sickies, Crazies, and a Deli"
1st Avenue starts in Kip's Bay at 23rd and it looks an awful lot like an ordinary, busy avenue. The avenue leading up to 25th is taken up by real tourist draws like a medical center, the NYU school of dentistry and an ugly, brick apartment complex. Quite the ambience, eh? And, if that's not enticing than moving up further all the way up to 30th street, you will find: a health lab, an AIDS research center, Bellevue Hospital, a children's shelter, the Bellevue Men's shelter for crazies and a crappy diner. The good news is that if you're sick or injured in any way shape or form, this is your street. The bad news is that there is absolutely nothing to see or do and if the power went out in New York there would be a lot of sick and crazies roaming the streets.
But, have no fear, because moving on from 30th right up until 34th you will find: the morgue, more NYU Medical Center, an atrocious looking apartment building, a crappy deli and to-go Chinese food. Interesting right? I can't imagine what the hell people are thinking when they move into that ugly as sin building and pay a ton of money to have a view of a hospital. Yikes.
Basically, I think what I'm saying is that 1st Avenue is like any other avenue that you wouldn't want to live on until you actually start looking at everything that's on the avenue . . . and then you run like hell and leave your apartment broker in the dust.
