"Nothing to do"
The block between 5th and Madison is a kind of funny transitional block between K town and Murray Hill / Kip's Bay. There are still a bunch of Korean restaurants but they try to fancy these ones up a bit. It's not as dingy / 24 hour / fun as just one block west. This block is kind of like putting lipstick on a pig to me. But, oh well.
Once you get east of Madison, you're getting into some really boring terrain. I think Murray Hill and Kip's Bay have got to be the most undesirable places that are pricey and liveable. There is no neighborhood feel and it's mostly just giant luxury buildings with no restaurants or bars for any of those residents to go to. There's a cute wine and cheese bar called Artisanal on the corner of 32nd and Park but that's, seriously, it for the entire block. It's weird too because you can't even call this area a family area (it's way too busy) so I don't know why the lack of fun.
There are a number of furniture stores and tons of high rise luxury condo buildings but I just can't imagine paying all that money to live by nothing. I don't even think there's a grocery store in this area. Sure, you live in a nice place, but you have to walk 10 blocks just to go get a drink. No thanks.

East 32 St
"Busy during the day"
East 32nd Street is an extremely busy area during the day. Many businesses and offices are located in the area and thus there is heavy foot traffic during the day. Because of the office population there are also amazing places to eat on a pretty tight budget. Healthy food choices can be found in the area as well, so just about anyone is catered to. Because it's a heavy traffic area it's best to take public transit and if you plan on moving into the area forget about bringing a car with you. Public transportation is readily avaliable, which is always nice.

"Korean Haven in the Heart of Midtown"
If you are somehow stuck near Macy's in Midtown and can't find any place to eat...make sure to head over to Korea Town at East 32nd st near the La Quinta Hotel. The Korean food is to die for and there is something for all tastes...high to low. There is also good karaoke if you move up towards the time square area. A must see for manhattanites.
