"Main thoroughfare in Burien"
The west end of SW 148th St. starts a couple of blocks just west of Ambaum Blvd. A few single-family homes can be found, but they quickly give way to shops, salons and restaurants. On the east side of Ambaum, SW 148th St. opens up to a 4-lane avenue that carries most commuter traffic in Burien. Strip malls, the Metro hub station and highway access to downtown Seattle are the main attractions on this busy road. Though "busy" is relative - compared to most traffic in Seattle proper, SW 148th St. is one of the fastest-moving thoroughfares in the city. The intersection with Hwy 509 marks the end of the street, as it turns into Hwy 518 heading to Renton and the I-5 interchange. While there isn't much foot traffic on the main road, there is some and drivers should be careful since pedestrians usually aren't. Not much in the way of after-hours nightlife, the street does provide some specialty shopping, such as Staples, Safeway, Bartells and Rite Aid. Of course, like nearly every street in Seattle, you'll definitely find a Starbucks among the shops.
