"Entrance street to Asser Levy Park"
Asser Levy Place is the entrance street off of 23rd into Asser Levy Park. Asser Levy was a Jewish kosher butcher who won a lot of tolerance victories for the Jewish community against the Stuyvesants when New York was just a baby. Kips Bay isn't exactly the mecca of Jewish neighborhoods in New York, but it's a nice memorial to him in any case.
The park is fine by a little park's standards. It's just too bad it's in such a big building / hospital kind of neighborhood. It takes a way from the tranquility that park is meant to provide. If you need some green, however, and you live in this neighborhood, this is your spot and we take what we can get in this city. One really cool thing about the park is that there is a landmark building in the park that used to be a bath house and is now an indoor swimming pool that's open year-round. The building is gorgeous and worth a look -- though I'm not planning on taking a swim there any time soon.
