"Bring a Camera, bring Dramamine"
I never realized how something in the Bay Area that is so close could be so far. Even by comparison to these other winding roads, Big Basin Way has a way of feeling even more remote. You immediately get launched from the lovely suburban Saratoga to the remote redwoods. The drive circumnavigates coastal redwoods, but the remarkable vistas of the skyline and coast are what add to the scenic views (although you are out of Saratoga by this point).
Photo stops abound, and of course the park is fantastic. Be prepared for a drive that is much, much longer than it looks on the map (a good 45 minutes from Saratoga if you are a relatively conservative driver). The drive is definitely dizzying, and you will not have too much in terms of cell phone reception. But if you have time, an iron stomach, and a willingness to be a bit disconnected, the drive is definitely worth it.
