"charming, quaint, and convenient"
Downey Street, only two blocks long, and one of the narrowest in San Francisco is a mix of victorian and edwardian architecture with tree lined sidewalks. The street offers homes, condos, and TICs and some rentals-- there is something for everybody here. The location is ideal, close to Cole Valley, Haight Street, Buena Vista Park, and Golden Gate Park-- there are restaurants and shopping a couple of blocks away and there are five playgrounds within a fifteen minute walk. The neighbors are friendly and supportive and newcomers are welcomed. On the block between Frederick and Waller there is also a convent and a Lycee run by the French Government. The Lycee produces a lot of traffic at pick up and drop off, but the rest of the time the street is quiet and safe.
For recreation Golden Gate Park, Buena Vista Park, and Sutro Forest provide miles and miles of paved and unpaved walking, running, and biking. Movies can be seen at the local art house, the Red Vic. Haight street offers a younger more urban scene than Cole Valley, but both have good dining and drinking establishments. Because Downey has a steep slope and does not go through to Haight, Downey is remarkably quiet at night and on weekends. There are at least 20 restaurants within a ten minute walk from Downey offering japanese, thai, eritrean, californian, italian, french, middle eastern, burgers, pizza, mexican, cuban, indian, and more.
There are many bus lines that pass through the neighborhood and the N-Judah stops in Cole Valley just three blocks away.
This part of town is a bit of a banana belt, though not as warm as downtown.
Houses with parking sell very quickly on Downey Street.
I was most surprised by the strong water pressure. You will get a satisfying shower.

Downey St
"Parks nearby for a great walk."
Downey Street is a long, yet narrow two-block street that runs from Waller Street to Ashbury Street. Downey Street is a one-way street that heads towards Ashbury Street. There isn’t much on Downey Street except cars, houses, and apartments. Transportation is accessible as the 9 Muni bus runs on Frederick Street and the 33 on Ashbury Street. Nearby are Golden Gate Park and the Panhandle, both great for a peaceful job/bike ride. Aim High Middle School is nearby on Waller Street. Buena Vista Park is nearby, also good for some quick exercise.
