"Pretty boring"
East 47th starts off at the UN Headquarters (like most Turtle Bay streets) and while there is a lot of green on the grounds, it's not exactly a public green area. And, since there isn't much in the way of green around here, that makes looking at the UN grounds a little depressing. 47th does have a park just across 1st Ave, so one point for an otherwise boring and sad street. There's a church on the corner of the green area (at 2nd) that encountered a scandal when a man pretending to be a priest here botched an abortion of his lover. He was sent to the electric chair in 1916 and the church suffered quite the scandal because they didn't check him out before he came to work there. There's a Catholic Church across the street from this church and a couple of apartment buildings. One of them is the tallest residential building in the world. It's not the prettiest thing but it really is a sight. I can't imagine living on the 71st floor of a building. That must be a precarious elevator ride every morning.
The block leading up to 3rd is entirely made up of residential buildings. They're all pretty boring looking. Andy Warhol's first factory was on this block but that building is long gone. It's just people that live here and have to go to other neighborhoods to eat, drink and be merry. This street is largely a dorm, in my opinion. The sleeping quarters are all very nice but no one hangs out here outside of sleeping.
